Wow! We’re in the homestretch! Less than 10 days to go!
Been thinking about this challenge and what deepening has happened…
Throughout, I’ve been blown away by the sweet comments, attention and moolah–you’ve all been so generous! Seriously, I’ve gotten pretty verklempt. (And with your help, no matter how small, I know I can hit my goal…)
This challenge has gotten me thinking again about the public face of art–going back to more collaborative pieces, like murals, but also the interchange that happens with you, the viewer. Most of my life, art’s just been something I couldn’t help but do. I eat a lot of meat, I like dogs, I doodle incessantly. No big.
My hope was to sink deeper into my art, to carve out more time to make art, to challenge myself to let go of work, instead of having it just pile up around me. But the biggest thing I’ve connected with is you, my sweet and steadfast peoples. It’s been a year of some fairly significant changes. Things can still feel pretty fragmented, but finally things are starting to knit back together. And through it all, I’ve been held and cheered on by the most amazing people a girl could wish for (that’s you again…).
So it’s funny, I’ve been feeling kinda bad about not posting (you know, life got all busy), that I haven’t made more time to sit and sketch all the gorgeous urban landscapes around me, that I haven’t gotten back into my bigger paintings…on and on that list of badness grew.
Sitting here, writing this. Writing to you, I’m realizing how I’ve hit an unexpected path into a party of my sweet dear peoples. Reconnecting with old friends, seeing different sides of new friends. All of that. And it’s funny, that’s really what this challenge was meant to do–deepen our connections–within the art (both Kajukenbo and, in my case, art) and to share who we are/what we do with all the intersecting communities that hold us. Funny how it doesn’t matter what path you take. In the end, it’s all the right path.
…
Oh yeah, the art…taking some liberties–this ended up taking a couple days, so I’m counting it for two days…and only doing one blog post. (Part of the fun is making up the rules as I go…pbbbbth!). Thanks to our #bartstrike, I was able to spend some quality time doodling on my ferry to ac transit ride (an hour appointment ended up taking 4 hours out of my day…and I’m one of the lucky ones…feeling pretty thankful about my 30 second commute).
