One of my favorite things about my studio is the sunny view of the backyard. As the name, Fruitvale, suggests, the tiny yard is packed with more fruit trees than I know what to do with: 2 plum, 1.5 apple, 1 persimmon (along the side of the house), 1 lemon, 1 meyer lemon, and a fig tree (in a pot). Most of the trees are fairly young, but the gnarled old lemon tree looks like it could have been part of a WWII victory garden.

This is a fairly quick, not very detailed sketch of the lemon tree. I tried to capture some of its shapes and colors (including the blooms during springtime) and its crazy shaped fruit. Oddly, my favorite parts are the shadows on the fence (that brown in the background) and the window handle.
