Irises
(oil and acrylic medium on fishcake board, 2×6-inches)

Today’s offering is a painting of the irises in my backyard.
There’s something incredible about the seasons and the plants that come up and stay–I’m not a gentle keeper of plants, and have decided that my yard is a bit of a darwinian experiment. What survives/thrives is entirely up to the plants. (Admittedly, I have a few potted plants that I do my best to keep alive, but we’re working with narrow margin here at Belly Palace.)
Sometime ago, I started saving the boards from fishcakes (I seem to eat a lot of them). Both because I have a troubling bent toward hoarding (hey! I only have two dogs now!) and because they were useful. I’ve used them to shim things, hold windows open, and Kolo thinks they make great chew toys.
In some errant attempt to prove their utility (i.e. I’m not just hoarding for hoarding’s sake, fer serious!), I starting doing little drawings/paintings on them. Been feeling like they lend themselves well to this project (small/portable, green-friendly, bit quirky), so I’m hoping to make a few of these over the course of the next month (this one I finished prior to the project).
Thanks for your support!
